Player Review
Smetzer had a great weekend at the Rubio Long Snapping VEGAS XXXIII Event on January 19-20, 2019. Extremely smooth Long Snapper that is fluid with his snapping motion but also on his feet. Looks effortless when he is snapping a ball and when is running through the agility drills. His follow through is epic and he drives his upper body through extremely well back to the punter. Strong hands that snap a powerful ball. Always improving. Stephen F. Austin got a great Long Snapper with excellent upside.
Smetzer was solid at the Rubio Long Snapping Fall Camp in TX on November 18th, 2018. He is one of the smoothest Long Snappers in his class. Watching him snap is like listening to a poem. It is fluid and just, well, fantastic. Balance is good and he reaches through really well. His ball is consistently in the mid .7s at 15 yards and when his spiral is on point, he can hit even lower. Timing of his legs is almost there and when it is, his ball will be even more accurate and quick. I am a big fan Smetzer’s snapping and attitude. Kid is good. Watch him at VEGAS XXXIII in January.
Smetzer did really well during the 2018 Rubio Long Snapping Summer Tour. He has good speeds between the upper .7s to mid .8s. Good starting form and he reaches through well to the punter to give Smetzer some solid accuracy. Locking down his spiral will make his ball a bit more catchable and also increase the speed as the ball will slice through the wind. If Smetzer can get his lower half fully involved, he would easily be sub .75 by the fall camps and at VEGAS XXXIII in January. Smetzer is really close to having his legs locked and slow motion drills will help a ton to get his snapping motion all smoothed out. Very good upside and he is solid. NIce jump in the rankings.
