Schmelter had a great day at the Rubio Long Snapping Fall Camp in North Carolina on October 4th, 2020. One of the smoothest Long Snappers in the country and he snaps the type of ball that you see in college and in the NFL. Super smooth with little movement and it will jump right into the punter’s hands. His upper body drives through like an absolute champ. He moves well on his feet and when Schmelter locks down his release point and consistency, he will dominate his class. Tremendous personality that has the potential to take over a locker room, in a good way.
Schmelter had a great day at the Rubio Long Snapping Midwest Camp on June 28th, 2020. He is an athletic Long Snapper with a tremendous frame. He can pass an eyeball test very quickly and checks all of the boxes. Starting form is great and reaches through the punter like a champ. His upper body is smooth and flips through with excellent speed. His snap speeds are already in the high .6s to low .7s and he is barely using his lower half. If Schmelter is able to lock his legs a tad more, he might just be the fastest Long Snapper in the country. I can’t wait to see him compete at The TOP 12 Camp in July.
Schmelter showed me has been working and smart with his performance at the Rubio Long Snapping IL Spring Camp on April 14th, 2019. He looks like he has grown another two inches since the last time I saw him. Tremendous frame to put on some good weight over the next couple of years. Very strong hands and his balance is good. His ball moves quickly and once his tiny hitch is gone, he will be, and this is not a joke, in the .6s. Schmelter is sitting on a gold mine and just getting his hands quicker will push him towards the top of his class. As he continues to grow, widening out his stance will help out as well. Potential is just incredible on Schmelter and he is definitely one to watch at VEGAS XXXIV in May.
Schmelter was impressive at the Rubio Long Snapping Midwest Fall Camp on December 9th, 2018. He has some of the strongest hands in the entire 2021 class. Good starting form and his balance is solid. Ball can jump back to the punter well. Right now, he is only using half of his body and the ball can still hit in the college level speeds. His ball speed is super fast but the timing can be a bit slow since Schmelter will wind up to snap the ball. His ball is so powerful right now, that if he can eliminate the hitch and get his legs just a bit involved, he could easily, and I mean easily, be snapping the ball in the low .6s….and that is not an exaggeration. The potential for greatness on Schmelter is off the charts.
